Time to Plant

Are you itching to start getting vegetables in your garden? You can get started now!

These are the vegetables that you should start by seed this week:
Tomatoes
Cabbage
Eggplant
Bell Peppers
Broccoli

Ready for some tips to ensure you have a successful harvest?

Keep records of what you're doing.  What was the weather like? How often did you water? What kind of soil did you use? This information will help you for future harvests.

Your seeds will be happiest in wide, shallow plastic pots because they hold a constitant moisture content.  Egg cartons or toilet paper rolls also work well.  Make sure that your container has drainage, as well!

Plants like warm temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.  This will help to encourage germination.  When you have your pots in areas like this, make sure to check the soil, as it can dry out faster.

Once your seeds have sprouted, make sure that you're rotating the container on a daily basis to encourage strong stem growth.

Your plants aren't quite ready to head outside and into the ground yet, they need to be hardened off.  Expose them to our weather over a few day period.  Start by exposing them to the weather in the morning for a few hours.  Add a few more hours every day.
